Azerbaijani salt producer ready to completely cover domestic demand

CJSC Production Association Azerbaijan salt established by Azersun Holding and Azerbaijani Investment Company (AIC), fully prepared to meet Azerbaijan's demand in iodized salt, plant director Alikamal Yilmaz during the familiarization with the production process at the plant Aug. 11.

"Today, Azerbaijan's demand in iodized salt is 30,000-50,000 tons and when the plant starts to operate at full capacity it will be possible not only to meet the needs of the country, but also to export it. Above all, it is planned to carry out external supplies to Georgia and the CIS countries," Yilmaz said.
The plant's capacity is 100 tons per day, but soon after the installation of the equipment that figure will increase to 300 tons. Annual production will be increased to 90,000 tons, he said.

The Azerbaijani Defense Ministry is one of the first customers of salt.

Yilmaz does not see the need for creating a similar production in the country, as Azerbaijan salt has a good location - near the Masazir Lake, where salt is extracted. The company can completely cover the domestic needs through its own facilities. The company provides products under the trademark "Azerduz" and "Bizim Duz.

About 16 million manat was invested in the construction of the plant and more four million manat will be invested to increase production volumes. 25 percent of the total investments fell to the Azerbaijan Investment Company and the remaining funds - Asersun Holding.

The plant operates around the clock, and the company involved 125 people with an average salary of 400 manat.

The salt plant has no analogues in other Caucasus countries, and production of the enterprise is competitive, as well as salt is produced by using modern technology.

The official exchange rate is 0.8035 manat to $1 Aug. 11.
