The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has "very positive and promising" forecasts for 2011 in relation to Turkmenistan, Secretary General of the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), Supachai Panitchpakdi said at his meeting with Turkmen President Gurbangulu Berdimuhammedov in Ashgabat.

Based on the IMF's forecasts, the economic growth in Turkmenistan will be more than 10-11 percent, which is "indisputable evidence of the success of the Turkmen leader's strategy of radical reform", he said.

Panitchpakdi noted the importance of initiatives voiced by Berdimuhammedov at the UN and aimed at strengthening universal peace, security and sustainable development, the Altyn Asyr television channel reported.

Berdimuhammedov noted about Turkmenistan's commitment to a strategic partnership with the UN and the willingness to further strengthen the fruitful cooperation with its major structures.

The two sides exchanged views on the priority areas of cooperation. The UNCTAD established in 1964 is a key organ of the UN General Assembly on issues in the above area. The structures' headquarter is located in Geneva. The conference includes 193 countries.
