Azerbaijan constructs three cement plants, which in future will strengthen the industrial capacities, as well as foster the expansion of the construction sector in the country, Economic Development Minister Shahin Mustafayev said Wednesday to AzTV state television.
"Today, one cement plant - Garadagh Cement - operates in the country. Last year its reconstruction started, and its production capacity will be increased in future from 1.1 million tons per year to 1.7 million tons," said Mustafayev.
According to the minister, currently a new cement plant with a capacity of 2 million tons per year is constructed in Absheron peninsula and the second plant in the Gazakh district by a private company.
"Also an industrial park has been created in the city of Sumgayit, where several factories on cable, plastic products already operate, also a factory for heavy equipment production is being constructed. These and other plants contribute to a significant increase in non-oil sector in the country," he said.
In addition, the construction of shipyard, which will produce 60,000-ton tankers and other ships, has already begun, the minister said.
