President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili is confident that the Tbilisi airport will have to reduce tariffs soon. Mr Saakashvili said a new airport in Kutaisi will open in September, from where it will be possible to fly from Europe to Asia cheaper.

"On the one hand, this will allow us to relieve the Tbilisi airport, on the other - the highway will pass two kilometers from this airport, and passengers will be able to reach it for two hours, and will be able to fly three times cheaper than from Tbilisi. After that, the Tbilisi airport will be forced to reduce tariffs," the president said who inspected construction of 17-kilometer bypass road to Kutaisi on Friday.

This section is part of the 59-kilometer bypass road to Imereti, which begins in Zestfoni and will pass through Kutaisi and Samtredia to Grigoleti.

The project envisages construction of two-lane concrete highway. Six bridges will be built, one of which will be a railway, four traffic unit will be created. When completed, Zestafoni-Samtredia highway will be relieved, retail facilities will be built on the road.

About 500 people have been employed at construction works.
