Mergen Shaliyev has been approved as Acting Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) of Turkmenistan, an official Turkmen source said.
The decision was taken at a board meeting of the CCI. Later President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov approved Shaliyev in this post.
Shaliyev previously served as Deputy Minister of Economy and Development. The former head of the CCI, Palvan Taganov was dismissed due to transfer to another job.
The Turkmen Chamber of Commerce and Industry was established in 1993 to promote economic development and its integration into the world economic system. Its agenda is to form a modern industrial, financial and trade infrastructure, to create favourable conditions for entrepreneurship and to assist in establishing trade and economic as well as scientific and technical ties with foreign partners.
