The trade value between Iran and Afghanistan is growing, IRNA quoted Afghan Foreign Ministry Spokesman Wahidullah Ghazikhel as saying.

He emphasized the need to streamline bilateral trade through customs.

He invited Iranian investors to participate in development projects in Afghanistan.

In September 2012, an official with Afghanistan's Foreign Ministry said that the annual trade between Iran and Afghanistan could reach $3 billion in the future.

Mohsen Pakayeen added that the figure is currently around $2 billion, the Mehr news agency reported.

According to the statistics, Iran accounts for 35-40 per cent of exports to Afghanistan.

Iran mainly exports pharmaceuticals, cement, iron and steel products, detergents and gasoline to Afghanistan.
