Kazakh Kazakhmys announces production results for 2012

Kazakh Metallurgical Corporation Kazakhmys increased copper in concentrate production to 306,100 tons in 2012 compared to 304,900 tons produced in 2011, the company reported on Thursday.

Copper cathode production in the reporting period hit 294,400 tons compared to 300,500 tons in 2011.

Zinc in concentrate production increased to 151,600 tons in 2012 compared to 139,600 tons in 2011.

Meanwhile, Kazakhmys decreased precious metals production in the reporting period. Gold production in 2012 hit 129,000 oz compared to 150,800 oz in 2011. Silver production decreased from 13.137 million oz in 2011 to 12.643 million oz in 2012.

According to the company, the production targets for 2012 have been met.

Copper production in 2013 is expected to remain at a similar level to 2012 and annual sales contracts for the year have already been signed, the company said.

Kazakhmys is a leading international natural resources group with significant interests in copper, gold, zinc, silver and power generation. It is the largest copper producer in Kazakhstan and one of the top worldwide with seventeen operating mines, ten concentrators and two copper smelters.
