Uzbek banks’ total assets increase by less than 5 percent since early 2013

Uzbek commercial banks' total assets increased by 3.9 percent reaching 37.1 trillion soums in January-June 2013 compared to 2012, a source in the Uzbek financial circles told Trend today.

According to the source, the banks' total loan portfolio for six months increased by 4.4 percent - to 21.3 trillion soums.

The aggregate capital increased during the period by 1.6 percent - to 6.3 trillion soums.

The total volume of deposits attracted by banks of the republic in January-June 2013 increased by 1.3 percent - to 23.1 trillion soums.

There are 29 commercial banks, including three state, four - with foreign capital, 13 - joint stock and nine - private in the Uzbek baking sector.

In 2012, the total assets of Uzbek banks increased by 30.2 percent to 35.7 trillion soums, the total loan portfolio - by 30.5 percent (to 20.4 trillion soums), the aggregate bank capital - by 24.3 percent (up 6.2 trillion soums) compared to 2011.

The official exchange rate is 2.104.62 soums/$1 on July 29.
