Georgian former PM’s fund to finance construction of two HPPs in country

The Co-Investment Fund will finance the construction of two hydro-power plants (HPPs) in Georgia.

The Co-Investment Fund will finance the construction of two hydro-power plants (HPPs) in Georgia. It is planned to construct the Kura HPP and an HPP cascade on the river Tskhenistskali (Western Georgia).

The Kura HPP project will be implemented in southern Georgia region of Akhaltsikhe. The plant's installed capacity will be 53.3 megawatt and its annual production will be equal to 255.2 megawatt/hours.

Around $100 million will be invested in the energy sector under the implementation of this project.

The process of studying the technical and economic details has been completed and currently the relevant agreements are being executed, according to the Fund.

The project for construction of the HPP cascade will be implemented in north-western Georgia, in the Lentekhi and Tsageri regions. The total installed capacity of the HPP will be 347 megawatts and its annual generation will be equal to 1.755 gigawatt /hours.

The investments will amount to $679 million, according to the Co-Investment Fund. A preliminary technical and economic study has already been held.

The Co-Investment Fund was created by Georgia's former Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili.
