Iran’s steel export hits $490M in 3 months

Iran has exported over 406,000 tons of steel products, worth $288 million during the first three months of the current Iranian fiscal year (March 21-June 22), the country's deputy industry minister, Mehdi Karbasian said.

Italy, Spain, the UAE, Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, Armenia, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Thailand, Turkmenistan, Iraq, Oman, Qatar and South Korea were the destinations of the Iran's steel products in the period, Karbasian said.

He further said that Tehran exported 470,000 metric tons of steel ingots, worth $202 million in the three-month period, Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO) reported Aug. 22.

The markets of Jordan, the UAE, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Thailand, Turkmenistan, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Oman and India were target of Iran's exported steel ingot, Karbasian added.

He also said that Iranian companies plan to export four million tons of steel by March 2016.

The figure stood at 2.5 million tons during the last fiscal year (ended on March 21), Karbasian said.

A report by the Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade said last year Iran's crude steel output grew by seven percent compared to the preceding year to hit 16.6 million metric tons

During the same period Iran's steel products output grew by two percent to hit 16.9 million metric tons.

Iran plans to produce 18 million metric tons of crude steel by the end of the current Iranian fiscal year (March 20, 2016) and to produce 19 million metric tons of steel products in the meantime.
