Azerbaijan reduces electricity generation

Azerbaijan's power plants generated 4.01 billion kilowatt hours of electricity in January-February 2016, or 6.4 percent less than in the same period of 2015, said the report issued by the country's State Statistical Committee.

Commercial electricity accounted for 3.83 billion kilowatt hours of the total volume of electricity produced during the reporting period, or 6.4 percent less than in January-February 2015.

Thermal power plants accounted for 3.63 billion kilowatt hours of commercial electricity produced in January-February 2016, or 7.9 percent less than in the same period in 2015.

This is while Azerbaijan's hydro power plants generated 195.1 million kilowatt hours of commercial electricity in January-February 2016, or 33.6 percent more than in the same period in 2015.

During the reporting period, the country's wind farms and solar power plants generated 2 million and 0.7 million kilowatt hours of electricity, respectively.

The generation capacity of Azerbaijan's power supply system has increased to 7,160 megawatts over the last five years. This allows to generate around 24 billion kilowatt hours of electricity and export 2.1 billion kilowatt hours of electricity annually.
