Turkish domestic car production may be localized in Sakarya province

Production of the first Turkish domestic car may be localized in the Sakarya province in northwestern Turkey, the province’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry said in a message Nov. 6.

At present, the province has all the necessary conditions for domestic car production, according to the message.

The province’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry sent an application to the Turkish government regarding localization of the first domestic car production in the province, the message said.

On Nov. 2, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced the names of companies that will take part in manufacturing of domestic car in the country.

Anadolu Grubu, BMC, Kiraca Holding, Turkcell and Zorlu Holding are among them.

Erdogan said that starting from 2021, Turkey will start exporting domestic cars to the neighboring countries.

The Turkish president added that it is also planned to create a special commission, which will supervise the production of domestic cars.

Turkey ranks sixth in Europe in car production. Models of Ford, FIAT, Renault, Toyota, Honda, Opel, Hyundai, Mercedes-Benz and MAN are currently assembled in Turkey.

Moreover, Turkey manufactures local brands of buses, such as BMC, Temsa and Otokar.
