Construction of a 15-kilometer monorail line has been canceled in Istanbul, the city mayor’s office said in a statement.
The line’s construction was expected to start in 2018, according to the message.
The cancellation of construction is related to unfavorable infrastructure in the area of laying the monorail line, the message noted.
New metro lines will be commissioned instead of the monorail line, according to the message.
“Currently, reconnaissance work is being carried out for the construction of new metro lines,” the message said.
A tender for the construction of the monorail line in Istanbul was announced in 2015.
