Kazakh, Finnish presidents mull bilateral relations, cooperation

President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev and President of Finland Sauli Niinisto discussed issues of bilateral relations, the official website of the Kazakh president stated on Wednesday.

During the meeting, held within the Kazakh president's official visit to Finland, Nazarbayev said that Finland is a key trade, economic and investment partner of Kazakhstan in Northern Europe. He added that Kazakhstan, in turn, accounts for 90 percent of Finland's trade with Central Asia.

"Both our states have significant potential for further deepening of cooperation, so it is necessary to accelerate the activities of working groups in energy, transportation, agriculture and education, and to start discussing specific projects," the head of state said.

Kazakh president further highlighted the results of the meeting with Finnish business representatives and noted the importance of the documents signed during the last business forum.

"We have agreed to launch completely new projects, the implementation of which will strengthen our cooperation," Nazarbayev said.

Niinisto, in turn, noted that the last bilateral meeting was held during the successful Expo 2017 Astana international exhibition in Kazakhstan.

"Since then, our bilateral trade and economic relations have advanced even further. I hope that your visit will contribute to their further deepening," the Finnish president said.

During the meeting, the sides also discussed bilateral cooperation in agriculture, green finance, energy, science and education, as well as cultural and humanitarian contacts.
