Rice paddies in Turkmenistan's Dashoguz province will mainly be sown with the rice varieties of Nukus-2, Munbashi and Alenga, which have proven themselves in the climatic conditions of the country's northern region, Trend reports referring to "Neutral Turkmenistan" newspaper.

The enterprise for cleaning rice in the Saparmyrat Turkmenbashi district has prepared about 2,000 tons of high-quality seed material, the report said. The capacity of the enterprise is 10-12 tons per hour.

Thanks to the thorough modernization of the agro-industrial complex, Dashoguz province, which has all the necessary conditions for rice cultivation, is today one of the main producers of rice in Turkmenistan. In December 2018, it was reported that Dashoguz successfully coped with the annual rice harvesting plan. The province harvested over 35,106 tons of rice from 8,100 hectares of allocated plot. The harvested crop exceeded the planned amount.

In 2018, it was planned to harvest about 82,500 tons of rice from 18,300 hectares of paddies in the whole of Turkmenistan. Rice is rich in carbohydrates and is considered one of the staple foods in Central and Southeast Asia.
