Around 300 billion rials (approximately $7.14 million) is needed for the renewal of the electricity network of the Iranian capital Tehran, Hossein Sabouri, Executive Director at Power Distribution Company of Tehran, told in a statement to ISNA, Trend reports.

Every year, steps are being taken for providing the electricity network of Tehran with the necessary equipment.

Sabouri said that two projects are considered next year (starting from March 21, 2019) for electricity supply during peak hours of the summer, stating that the first one is aimed at upgrading the network, and the second at saving energy consumption.

“Consumers should save about 400-500 megawatts (MW) of energy so as to prevent Tehran from plunging into darkness during peak hours of the summer months,” he remarked.

According to the statistics, 4666 MW of electricity was consumed in Tehran in 2017. According to the evaluations, this figure should have reached 4900 MW. Also, it is aimed to prevent this figure from reaching 4500 MW. To this end, 400-500 MW of electricity needs to be saved.
