More than 10 tons of raw gold have been discovered during a police operation in the Varzaqan County of Iran's East Azerbaijan Province, Colonel Ghasem Nazari, chief of the law-enforcement body of the Varzaqan County of Iran's East Azerbaijan Province, told IRNA, Trend reports.
Nazari said that the load of gold was found in a truck, adding that the load is estimated to be worth 40 billion rials (app. $952,000).
One person has been detained and the investigation is ongoing.
Andaryan gold mine is located in the Varzaqan County of the East Azerbaijan Province of Iran.
In recent years, there have been cases of illegal extraction of raw gold in Varzaqan County, which lead to the deaths of several people.
