The Azerbaijan-based AzVIRT company has constructed 9 kilometers of the Baku-Guba-Russian State Border Highway, a source in the company told Trend.

AzVIRT will build 92 kilometers out of 208 kilometers of the road in total, the source said.

The construction of the road will continue throughout the year, according to the source.

The goals of building alternative roads which do not pass through settled areas are limiting transport density on the main roads, modernizing and expanding the road network in the country, and providing high-quality services to drivers, along with ensuring high-speed mode and safety requirements on highways.

On February 19, 2018, President Ilham Aliyev signed a decree on measures to build the Baku-Guba-Russian State Border Highway.

As per the decree, 150 million manats were allocated from the state budget for 2018 to the State Road Agency of Azerbaijan.

With its foundation laid in the Haji Zeynalabdin village, the construction of the new M-1 Baku-Guba-Russian State Border Highway, which is an integral part of the North-South international transport corridor, will give additional impetus to the development of tourism in the region, along with improving the transport services.
