Uzbekistan to rebuild textile industry in Afghanistan

Uzbekistan has signed a memorandum of cooperation on the restoration of textile enterprises’ activities in Afghanistan, Trend reports with reference to Uztextileprom.

The memorandum was signed in the capital of Afghanistan, Kabul.

Early in March, Uzbek specialists have already visited Afghanistan to study the state of the textile industry. During the trip, they visited the largest Afghan cotton processing plants and textile mills.

"Within the framework of the document, the Uzbek side intends to provide advisory and technical assistance to the Afghan textile industry. In particular, Uzbekistan will assist in the development of project documentation for the restoration of textile enterprises in Afghanistan," Uztextilprom said in a statement.

In addition, it is planned to organize training courses for specialists in the textile industry in Afghanistan at the Tashkent Institute of Textile and Light Industry and advanced training at domestic enterprises of textile industry.

Trade turnover between the two countries increased by 18 percent in 2018. There are 110 enterprises with the participation of Afghan capital in Uzbekistan, and 8 Uzbek enterprises in Afghanistan.

Moreover, Uzbekistan is seeking to join Afghanistan to the single energy ring of Central Asia. This will be realized by building a new power line Surkhan - Pul-Khumri.
