Uzbekistan prepares public-private partnership projects worth $6.8B

Currently, 15 public-private partnership (PPP) projects worth $6.8 billion are being prepared with Uzbekistan’s ministries and departments, Trend reports with reference to Uzbekistan’s Agency for PPP Development.

Of these, nine projects in the energy sector, two in the field of transport, three in the field of public utilities and one in the field of healthcare.

The international tender for the construction of a 100 MW photovoltaic station in the Navoi region on the basis of a public-private partnership was completed on Oct. 4 this year. According to the results of the evaluation of proposals, the winner of the tender was Masdar (UAE) with a tariff of 2.67 cents per 1 kWh of electricity and a construction period of 12 months. This is one of the lowest prices among similar solar energy projects in the world.

Tenders for the establishment of hemodialysis centers are at the completion stage. The announcement of the tender results is planned before the end of this year, the agency reported.

In addition, the PPP Agency, together with other organizations, is working on 10 new projects.

Of these, five projects in the healthcare sector, including four projects with the assistance of the International Finance Committee (IFC) - an oncology center, a rehabilitation center, a multidisciplinary hospital and diagnostic centers, and one project on a private initiative - a sterilization center.

Moreover, one project in the field of public education (modernization of 11 schools in the Sergeli district), one project in the field of transport (modernization of bus terminals), two projects in the field of housing and communal services (water and heat supply in certain areas (cities) and one project in agricultural sector (multifunctional service centers).

The agency, which has been established in the fall of 2018, defines a single PPP policy in Uzbekistan, considers projects and agrees on tender documents and PPP agreements.
