Iranian gov't approves import of banana, pineapple, mango in exchange for apple exports

Iranian Government will approve import licenses for banana, mango and pineapple in exchange for apple exports by the end of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2020).

According to the decision of the recent Cabinet meeting headed by President Rouhani, the import of bananas, mangoes and pineapples are permitted alongside apple export declarations, Trend reports citing IRNA.

As reported, more than 3.6 million tons of apples are projected to be harvested nationwide by the end of this Iranian year, and 900,000 tons are expected to be in the category of industrial grade 3 apples.

In the first 10 months of the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2018, through March 21, 2019), more than 350,000 tons of bananas worth nearly $300 million were imported into the country, IRNA reported.
