80,000 tons of bananas harvested in Iran’s Sistan & Baluchestan province

Some 80,000 tons of bananas have been harvested in Iran’s Sistan and Baluchestan province this Iranian year (began March 21, 2019), Director of Horticulture Department of the Sistan and Baluchestan Agriculture Organization Ardashir Shahraki said, Trend reports citing IRNA.

Bananas are grown all year round in the province, and it is expected to harvest 100,000 tons of bananas this year, Shahraki noted.

The director said that banana gardens of the province occupy the area of 4,798 hectares.

Shahraki added that 2,798 hectares of this territory are productive, and the rest are non-productive.

Sistan and Baluchestan province ranks first in Iran in terms of banana growing, the director said.

Sistan and Baluchestan province has unique climate for cultivation of many fruits, including bananas, mangoes, papayas, guavas, pineapples, pomegranates and other products. In this province, several products are harvested twice a year.
