Iran may reduce chicken export duties

BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 6

By Elnur Baghishov - Trend:

As result to the spread of coronavirus in Iran, cancellation of various measures and given the cheapening of chicken meat in the domestic market, the export duty on chicken meat may be reduced, said Deputy Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade of Iran Abbas Ghobadi, Trend reports citing ISNA.

According to Ghobadi, so far, the duty on a kg of chicken was 50,000 rials (about $1.19) and this figure will be reduced to 15,000 rials (about 35 cent).

The official expressed hope the Iranian Ministry of Agriculture will agree to the proposal to reduce duties.

Ghobadi added that in addition, the committee decided that the Iranian Livestock Affairs Logistics Company would purchase additional chicken meat remaining on the market.

"Consumption of chicken meat in Iran has been reduced to a minimum due to the spread of the coronavirus, the closure of restaurants and the lack of various ceremonies. This has resulted in lower prices in the market," he said.

Ghobadi said that at present, the price of 1 kg of chicken in the Iranian market is about 100,000 rials (about $2.38), and the selling price is about 120,000 rials (about $ 2.85).
