Iran seeks to boost gold production at Mouteh, Zarshouran mines

It is planned to increase gold production by 17 percent in the Mouteh gold mine of Isfahan province (central Iran) and Zarshouran gold mine of West Azerbaijan province (northwestern Iran) in the current Iranian year (started from March 20, 2020), said Deputy Chairman of Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation (IMIDRO) Omid Emami said, Trend reports citing the IMIDRO.

According to Emami, a total of 1,139 kilograms of gold was produced at these mines last Iranian year (from March 21, 2019 to March 20, 2020).

Emami added that it is planned to increase this figure to 1,333 kilograms this year.

The official said that this year, the entire mining sector, especially iron ore, is expected to grow by 19 percent compared to last year.

"Iron ore production at IMIDRO's mines will reach 75 million tons this year. Last year, 62.5 million tons of iron ore was produced,” he said.

Emami said that about 5,600 mines operating in Iran produce 400 million tons of mining materials a year. At same time, IMIDRO-related mines produce about 120 million tons of ore.

There are a total of 10,400 mines in Iran.
