Some 34,781 tons of onions worth $12.4 million were imported to Georgia in 2019, Trend reports with reference to the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat).
According to statistics, in the first quarter of 2020, as in 2019, onions were imported to Georgia from Turkey ($5 million), Uzbekistan ($2.3 million), Azerbaijan ($1.8 million), Kazakhstan ($1.8 million) and Russia ($500,000).
These countries are among the five largest importers of onions to Georgia.
As for exports, according to Geostat, 9,031 tons of onions worth $3 million were exported from Georgia.
In 2019, 804.6 tons of onions worth $279,400 were exported from Georgia. Exporting countries include Turkey and Azerbaijan.
Meanwhile, compared to 2018, in 2019 the average yield of onions increased to 6.8 tons/ha in Georgia.
