Iran declares length of roads and railways to be commissioned

About 5,000 kilometers of roads will be commissioned in Iran by the end of the current Iranian government (August 2021), Minister of Roads and Urban Development Mohammad Eslami told journalists, Trend reports citing official portal of Iranian Parliament.

He made the remark after a meeting of the Iranian parliament's landscaping committee.

The minister noted that it is necessary to provide financial resources for the construction of these roads.

Eslami added that in general, 11,100 kilometers of roads and railways are being built in Iran.

Last month, Iran's Minister of Roads and Urban Development said that about 500 km of controlled-access highway and 700 km of highway roads will be commissioned in Iran by time of the current government.

At present, the length of Iran's controlled-access highway is 2,470 kilometers, and the length of highway roads is 18,400 kilometers. About 560 million tons of cargo was transported by roads in Iran in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2019 to March 20, 2020).

The length of Iran's railways is 14,700 kilometers. More than 47 million tons of cargo was transported via these railways in Iran in the last Iranian year.
