Georgia exports peaches, nectarines to EU countries for first time

BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 11

By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

Georgian company Frutilia exported Georgian peaches and nectarine to the European market for the first time, Trend reports referring to EastFruit portal.

The country's first supply of the fruits to Europe is to be delivered to Poland, said the report, and the container with 20 tons of Georgian peaches and nectarines has been already transported to the Polish border.

Frutilia is a Georgian fruit and vegetable export company with 15 years of experience. Until recently, Frutilia has been exporting only to the post-Soviet space, although for years, since the signing of a deep and comprehensive trade agreement with the European Union on June 27, 2014, the company has been working to enter the European market.

“We have been trying to find partners on the European market, although for a long time, we were unable to export Georgian agricultural products for various reasons. Of course, 20 tons is a small volume, but it is more important that our product reached Europe, and I am sure that the European buyer will appreciate the special taste of Georgian fruits," said head of the company Vakhtang Bezhitashvili.

"We have already prepared the second container for export. If everything goes well, it will be dispatched immediately, and in 5-7 days the cargo will be at the destination point," he added.
