New irrigation lines to be commissioned in Iran

New irrigation lines will be put into operation in the western Iranian provinces of Kermanshah and Ilam on August 13 to supply water to 23,000 hectares of agricultural land, Trend reports citing Ministry of Energy of Iran.

According to the report, the irrigation lines were laid with the joint investment of the Iranian Ministry of Energy and the Ministry of Agriculture Jihad.

In total, 17.7 trillion rials (about $422 million) has been invested to the these irrigation lines.

“Of this amount, 12.6 trillion rials [about $301 million] was invested by the Ministry of Energy of Iran,” the report said.

The goal of the project is to reduce the effects of drought, meet the sector's needs in water supply and develop agriculture.

With the commissioning of these irrigation lines, 9,240 people will be employed in agriculture and related sectors, the ministry added.
