Volume of saffron to be harvested in Iran's Kermanshah Province declared

It is planned to harvest 1,700 kg of saffron in the Kermanshah Province (western Iran) in the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2020, to March 21, 2021), Director of Agriculture Department of Kermanshah Province Nourbakhsh Hatami said, Trend reports citing the department’s portal.

According to Hatami, the development of saffron cultivation in Kermanshah Province began about 10 years ago. Thus, the saffron was cultivated on 0.5 hectares of land 10 years ago. At present, this figure reached 422 hectares of land.

Hatami added that the other 120 hectares of arable land in the province have been put into operation for the cultivation of saffron in the current Iranian year.

The director stressed that 43 billion rials (about $1.02 million) has been allocated for the development of saffron cultivation in the current Iranian year.

At present, the price of saffron for 1kg in the Iranian market ranges from 85 million to 140 million rials (about $2,023-$3,333).
