Iran implements plan on offshore fish farming

As part of fish farming plan in Iran, 200,000 tons of fish will be grown annually in sea fish cages in the next two years (until March 21, 2022), Chairman of the Iran Fisheries Organization Nabiollah Khon Mirzaei said, Trend reports citing Ministry of Agriculture Jihad of Iran.

According to him, the method of fish farming with fish cages in sea is implemented based on modern technologies. Iran had to import necessary technology and equipment, yet the country manufactures about 75 percent of equipment for offshore fish farms domestically.

The chairman noted that in addition, 400,000 tons of fish will be grown annually until 2026 within offshore fish farming plan of Iran.

"Currently, Iran conduct researches on the growing of about 1 million tons of fish in the Caspian Sea, 3.7 million tons in the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman per year," he said.
