Iran implements pilot project on wheat cultivation in several provinces

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Dec. 19

Wheat is being planted in 7 provinces of Iran under a pilot project, the Director-General of the Internal Procurement Department of the Government Trading Corporation of Iran (GTC) Morteza Saadati Kia said, Trend reports citing the corporation’s website.

According to Saadati Kia, wheat is cultivating in Bushehr, Khuzestan, Fars, Sistan and Baluchestan, Kerman, Golestan and Hormozgan provinces of Iran under this project.

"By December 14, 2021, wheat has been cultivated on 106,825 hectares of land. A total of 317,377 tons of wheat is estimated to be harvested from these areas," he added.

The director general noted that more than 7,800 farmers have joined the pilot project until the mentioned period.

Saadati Kia said that the pilot project was prepared by the Iranian Ministry of Agriculture Jihad and is being implemented by the GTC. It is projected that the areas under wheat will increase within the project in the coming years.
