BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 28. Iran plans to farm a total of 714,000 tons of fish and related animals at the fish farms, during the current Iranian year (March 21, 2022 through March 20, 2023), an official of Iran Fisheries Organization Morteza Afrasiabi said, Trend reports citing Iranian Ministry of Agriculture Jihad.

According to Afrasiabi, Iran is estimated to grow 70,000 tons of shrimp for the current Iranian year.

“Meanwhile, in the last Iranian year (March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022), about 58,000 tons of shrimp were farmed in the country,” he added.

The official also noted that in order to support marine farming in Iran, the government plans to provide 10 trillion rials (about $238 million) in financial aid, as well as 50 trillion rials (about $1.19 billion) in low-interest loans.

“In addition, $950 million is expected to be allocated for the import of necessary equipment and technology in this sector,” Afrasiabi said.
