BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 17. Strengthening cooperation between Kazakhstan and Turkey can give positive results against the backdrop of the difficult geopolitical situation in the region, Kazakh political scientist, and director of Alma club Islam Kuraev told Trend.

President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev paid an official visit to Turkey from May 10 through May 11. Sides signed a number of bilateral agreements during the visit.

According to Kuraev, one should not expect quick results from these bilateral steps of Turkey and Kazakhstan. Signed agreements are more focused on the future.

"This is cooperation for a long period of time and implementation of agreements is also long-term. Therefore, I think cooperation will develop gradually, but generally in a positive trend," Kuraev said.

Political scientists noted that today anti-Russian sanctions have a very strong impact on countries of Central Asia as a whole, including Kazakhstan.

"Main transit and all transit routes for Kazakhstan are fixated on Russia. Providing alternative routes through Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Turkey is the most promising option for Kazakhstan today," he said.

According to him, in this context, strengthening cooperation between member countries of the Organization of Turkic States both bilaterally and multilaterally opens up great development opportunities in the long term.
