Highways Fund expects 100 million AZN in 2007.

Highways Fund expects 100 million AZN to the budget by the end of the next year, Ziya Mammadov, Azerbaijan`s Transport Minister told, Trend reports.

According to the Minister, the formation of the Fund is not related to either domestic or external investments to the road building. Up to date, the State Budget has envisaged funds aimed at maintaining the motor ways. These expenses were insufficient to maintain the highways in a good condition, pointed the Minister. The Fund's means are expected to be sent directly to maintaining the existing motor ways in the country.

This year, highways in Guba, Yardimli, Dashkasan, Khanlar, Khizi regions have been built at the expense of the budget investments. Within a project on trunk-roads to all directions, we have solved all financial issues; determined sources of financing and signed corresponding documents. Starting from the next year, physical works will be launched on the all trunk-roads of the country, pointed out Mr. Mammadov.

The Azerbaijan President has issued an order on founding a budget fund Highways from the State Budget. President aims for speeding up works carried out in this field, as well as efficient use of the highways network, and maintaining them in a good condition.

The Fund will be formed at the expense of some articles of the public budget, including road tax, simplified tax paid by owners and uses of automobile conveyances used for cargo and passenger conveyance, excises used for import automobiles, tax duties used collected from licenses granted for implementation of international deliveries via the territory of Azerbaijan, state duties from annual review of automobiles, including trails and semi-rails.

The Azerbaijani Transport Ministry was indicated as a distributor of relevant part of the State Budget expenses.
