First U.S. Phantom Drophead Coupe auctioned for $2m

(www.autoinsidernews.com) - For buyers interested in the new Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe, you'll need $407,000 sitting in your bank account, and you should already have your name on the waiting list.

But the privilege of owning the first Phantom Drophead Coupe in the U.S. is going to cost Real estate developer Raymond Lutgert a cool $2 million. Lutgert's winning bid, at the Naples Winter Wine Festival, moves him ahead of the current waiting list for the Drophead, which is sold out of 2007. The winning bid is believed to make this Phantom Drophead Coupe the most expensive new car ever sold in the States, reports Trend.

More than $1.6 million will go to the Naples Children and Education Foundation, which supports charitable and educational programmes to improve the physical, emotional and educational lives of underprivileged or at-risk children.

Lutgert will take delivery of the Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe in March, while mere mortals вЂ" albeit extremely wealthy mortals вЂ" will have to wait until full production starts in the summer.
