Azerbaijan, Baku, 12 March /corr. Trend S.Aliyev / Azerbaijan will re-establish repaying electricity debt to Iran in April, the Vice President of Azerenergy JSC, Marlen Askerov, said on 12 March. The electricity debt is 200mln KWt/h.

Azerbaijan supplies 1.5 - 1.7mln KWt/h of electricity to Iran per day to return an electricity debt in the volume of 400mln KWt/h. Returning the debt ceased in January.

Azerbaijan ensures the electricity demand of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic at the expense of supplies from Iran. Azerbaijan receives electricity from Iran during the winter period in case of an electricity deficit and returns it in the summer in the case of deficit in Iran.

According to the agreement, if during the year Azerbaijan cannot return the whole volume of electricity, the debt should be paid in cash. However, Iran refused to be paid in cash and therefore, the debt will be returned with electricity.
