Azerbaijan, Baku, Jan. 06 / Trend , E.Ismayilov /

The foundation of several small hydroelectric power plants will be laid in Azerbaijani regions in near future, Marlen Asgerov, vice- president of Azerenergy said on Jan.5.

"The foundation of one of two small hydroelectric power plants will be laid in near future. This power plant is in Goychay River," Asgerov said.

At present, private foreign investors are interested in construction of small power plants (HPP) in the country within development of alternative and renewable energy sources in Azerbaijan. All the proposed projects of small hydropower plants are designed for country's regions. There are four or five finished projects of the construction of small hydropower plants with the prepared feasibility study, which fully includes necessary investments.

Asgerov said the country also plans to use wind energy. Using wind energy is expedient in term of fuel saving, whilst still has deficiencies.

The countries using extensively the wind energy, which takes approximately 25-30 percent of electricity production, face a problem in substituting these volumes in case of absence of necessary wind speed. Putting into operation large power plants in short timeframes is impossible. There appears a shortage in electricity. In this case the country should either have additional energy facilities or purchase electricity from neighboring countries before commissioning standard power plants when problems occur in energy supply.
