The winner was announced this week of an international tender to construct a space satellite for Turkmenistan. The French Thales company won the contract to implement the large-scale project, an inside Turkmen source told Trend today.

This will be the first space satellite in the region, and will mark a breakthrough in the Central Asian telecommunications industry. The contract is still under negotiation.

Thales also works with the Turkmengaz state concern to develop a gas pipeline and gas accounting management project, and to create national gas control systems.

The company has already implemented projects for Turkmenistan Airlines, providing several Turkmen airports with air-navigation and radar equipment.
