SOCAR is preparing to resume drilling of the second exploratory well on the Umid offshore gas condensate field, a source in SOCAR told Trend on Tuesday.

"The well depth is 4,505 meters and casing string has already been launched at this depth. Drilling can be resumed even tomorrow," the source said.

After bringing the well depth to 4,750 meters, another casing string will be launched at the same depth. Afterward, SOCAR plans to continue drilling to completion at 6,500 meters, the source said.

The heading is planned to be completed in late 2011- early 2012.

According to SOCAR's specialists, there are over 200 billion cubic meters of gas and 40 million tons of condensate at Umid field.

The Umid Field is located 75 kilometers from Baku. In 1953 the first geophysical works were carried out at the field. They were repeated in 1972 in a somewhat improved form. From 1977 to 1992, nine wells were drilled without result.
