Uzbekistan, Tashkent, April 16 / Trend, D. Azizov /

Uzbekistan has resumed gas supplies to Tajikistan, Uzbekneftegaz National Holding Company's website reported.

"Based on the contract signed between the JSC Uztransgaz and JSC Tajiktransgas on April 11, 2012, natural gas supplies to Tajikistan were resumed from 12:00 a.m.on April 16," the report says.

Details of the contract and volumes of supplied gas are not disclosed.

Uzbekistan has stopped gas supplies to Tajikistan since April 1.

According to the Uzbek side, the contract signed on Jan. 5, 2012 between Uetransgaz Joint-Stock Company (structural subsidiary of Uzbekneftegaz NHC) and Tajiktransgas Joint-Stock Company, guaranteed gas supplies to Tajikistan only for the first quarter of this year in the amount of 45 million cubic meters.

In turn, the Tajik side stated that in accordance with this agreement, volume of supplies had to reach 200 million cubic meters.

Uzbekistan is the only foreign supplier of gas to Tajikistan, and own production of this fuel in the country is insignificant. In this situation, the Tajik side tried to conclude a contract to purchase the Turkmen gas and transit it through Uzbek territory.
