Pakistani FM: Russia supports IP gas pipeline project

Foreign Minister of Pakistan Hina Rabbani Khar on Friday said Russia supports Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project and Indian lobbying cannot succeed in impeding the rapidly improving Pak-Russia relations, brecorder reported.

Briefing Senate Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs about the postponement of Russian President Vladimir Putin's scheduled visit to Pakistan, Khar said that there was nothing other than the tight personal domestic schedule as far as the deferment of Putin's trip to Pakistan is concerned.

She told the panel that Pakistan was enjoying good relations with the Russian Federation and the mutual ties would further grow in future. She hinted at possible Indian lobby to hamper Pak-Russia ties. However, she expressed the confidence that the Indian lobby could not succeed in impeding the growing mutual relations between the two countries.

She told the panel that Russia and Pakistan have same views on Afghanistan that they support 'indigenous solution' to the Afghan conflict through genuine reconciliation process.

She said the Speaker of Russian parliament will soon visit Pakistan which will help strengthen the relationship between the two parliaments. Khar told the panel that Russia was also supporting Pakistan for permanent membership of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
