The Geophysics and Geology Department of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) has completed the interpretation of a three-dimensional seismic exploration at the Umid field in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea

Azerbaijan, Baku, Sept. 25 /Trend, E. Ismailov/

The Geophysics and Geology Department of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) has completed the interpretation of a three-dimensional seismic exploration at the Umid field in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea, a statement released by the department said.

According to the report, the three-dimensional seismic explorations were carried out at the field by JV Caspian Geophysical Company.

The geological structure of the filed was specified, the amplitude and direction of tectonic faults and the boundaries of the hydrocarbon saturation of collector layers on different horizons were determined as a result of the processing and interpretation of the obtained data.

SOCAR started gas deliveries from the Umid field to the gas transit network in September 2012. The opening of the Umid field was announced in 2010.

According to the results of drilling at the first exploration well, the amount of field's reserves amounted to over 200 billion cubic meters of gas and 40 million tons of condensate, the SOCAR's specialists said.

The Umid field is located 75 kilometres away from Baku, 40 kilometres away from the coast. In 1953, the first geophysical works were carried out here, which were repeated in 1972 in some improved mode. Nine wells have been drilled from 1977 to 1992 there, none of which gave results.
