US slightly increases import of Azerbaijani petroleum products

The US imported 373,000 barrels of petroleum products from Azerbaijan in Jan.-Oct. 2014, compared to 366,000 barrels in the same period of 2013, said the message posted on the website of the US Energy Information Administration (EIA).

The US imported a total of 14,000 barrels of Azerbaijani petroleum products in October 2014, compared to 30,000 barrels in the same month of 2013, according to the message.

Naphtha accounts for the total volume of the imported products. It is used as raw material in the petrochemical industry.

The US imported 366,000 barrels of petroleum products from Azerbaijan in 2013, compared to 46,000 barrels in 2012.

The US resumed the import of petroleum products from Azerbaijan in 2012 after the long break that has been going on since 2009. Around 308,000 barrels of Azerbaijani petroleum products were delivered to the US in 2008.

Currently, petroleum products are produced at two Baku refineries with a total capacity of 16 million metric tons of oil per year. Both of the refineries are owned by Azerbaijan's State Oil Company (SOCAR) which processes around 7 million metric tons of oil produced at offshore and onshore fields with its own funds.

Recently, Azneftyag refinery was eliminated and included in the Baku Oil Refinery named after Heydar Aliyev.
