An Iranian deputy oil minister said the Islamic Republic has reached its goal of self-sufficiency in gasoline production, Alireza Sadeqabadi, CEO of National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company (NIORDC), said.

“We have managed to produce 93 million liters of gasoline on average on a daily basis since the start of the current Iranian fiscal year (started March 21),” Sadeqabadi said, Khabar Online website reported.

Compared to last year, the country’s gasoline production has witnessed a 50 percent rise, he added.

“Fortunately, we have reached self-sufficiency in the production of gasoline,” the deputy oil minister said.

This came after President Hassan Rouhani recently inaugurated the second phase of the Persian Gulf Star Refinery in the southern port city of Bandar Abbas.

Phase 1 of the refinery was opened by the Iranian president in March 2017.

The country’s total production of gasoline, as announced by the NIORDC stood at 74.4 ml/d on average, around 8 percent higher than a similar period in 2016.
