European Commission calls on European companies to invest in Uzbek energy sector

The European Commission called on European companies to invest in the energy sector of Uzbekistan, Trend reports citing the press service of the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan.

At the end of last week, the delegation of Uzbekistan led by First Deputy Minister of Energy Zhurabek Mirzamakhmudov took part in a seminar in Brussels on ongoing reforms in the energy sector of Uzbekistan.

The event was organized by the European Institute for Asian Studies.

Addressing European companies Head of Unit "International Relations & Enlargement" and of Directorate-General for Energy of the European Commission Anne-Charlotte Bournoville noted that the EU is ready to share its experience with Uzbekistan in introducing energy-efficient technologies and reducing carbon emissions in the energy sector.

Earlier, Deputy Minister of Energy of Uzbekistan Sherzod Khodzhaev said that the government plans to phase out the assets of almost all power plants to private investors, including foreign ones.

Only a few hydroelectric power stations and nuclear power plants, the construction of which is scheduled to begin in 2020, will remain in the state administration,
