By Anastasia Savchenko – Trend:

In accordance with the forecasts, almost half of the total electricity production will account for the share of renewable energy sources in 2040, director of Eurasia Analytics consulting company Gulmira Rzayeva told Trend.

The expert said that the structure of energy consumption will change in connection with an increase in the use of renewable energy sources and natural gas.

"Solar energy is at the forefront," Rzayeva said. “It is expected to surpass all other sources of energy."

“In accordance with the International Energy Agency, the share of solar energy in the global energy balance of power generation has been growing rapidly since 2010,” the expert added. “It will increase from 200 gigawatts to more than 3,000 gigawatts in 2040.”

"The share of wind energy will grow from 300 gigawatts to 1,900 gigawatts," Rzayeva said.

The expert also emphasized that the share of hydropower will increase from 800 gigawatts to 1.850 gigawatts, while the share of natural gas energy will increase from 110 gigawatts to 1,600 gigawatts.

“The share of nuclear energy will hardly change, remaining at the level of 450 gigawatts,” Rzayeva added.

The alternative energy sources are renewable resources, they replace traditional energy sources operating on oil, natural gas and coal, which, while burning, emit carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, which contributes to the growth of the greenhouse effect and global warming.

The reason for the search for alternative sources of energy is the need to receive it from the energy of renewable or practically inexhaustible natural resources and phenomena. Such factors as environmental friendliness and profitability are also taken into account.
