Import of gasoline, diesel fuel to Georgia increases

Import of gasoline and diesel fuel to Georgia amounted to 84,400 tons in March 2020, which is 900 tons or 1.1 percent less than in February 2020, Trend reports referring to Union of Petroleum Importers of Georgia.

According to the data, it is 14,700 tons, or 21.1 percent more, than in March 2019.

In the first quarter of 2020, imports of gasoline and diesel fuel to Georgia amounted to 244,400 tons, which is 11,800 tons, or 5.1 percent more than in the same period last year.

In March 2020, gasoline imports amounted to 45,400 tons (an increase of 7,900 tons, or 21.1 percent compared to the same period last year).

Meanwhile, in the reporting period diesel imports reached 39,000 tons (an increase of 6,800 tons, or 21.1 percent).

Import of A-91 brand gasoline amounted to 28,800 tons, or 63.4 percent of total import, import of A-95 brand - 15,400 tons, or 33.9 percent, import of A-98 Super brand - 1,200 tons, or 2.6 percent.

In March 2020, the largest volume of imports of gasoline and diesel fuel to Georgia was carried out from Russia in the amount of 19,000 tons, which is 22.5 percent of total imports. In addition,16,800 tons (19.9 percent) of gasoline and fuel were imported to Georgia from Turkmenistan, 16,300 tons (19.3 percent) - from Romania; 9,700 tons (11.5 percent) - from Azerbaijan; 7,800 tons (9.2 percent) - from Kazakhstan; 7,200 tons (8.5 percent) - from Bulgaria; 5,200 tons (6.2 percent) - from Greece; 1,500 tons (1.8 percent) - from the UAE; and 900 tons (1.1 percent) - from Turkey.

"Fuel imports in March 2020 increased by 21.1 percent compared to the same period last year, despite the fact that its sales decreased by 40 percent due to the coronavirus pandemic. The increase in fuel imports is mainly due to a significant decrease in world prices for it," the Union of Petroleum Importers of Georgia said.
