The production of alternative and renewable energy power plants in Iran amounted to 104 million kilowatt hours in the first month of the current Iranian year from March 20 through April 19, 2020, Trend reports citing Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Organization.

According to the report, a total of 4.46 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity was generated in Iran by alternative and renewable energy power plants since the launch of alternative renewable energy plants.

“In the first month of the Iranian year, the loss of electricity was reduced by 8 million kilowatt-hours. In total, this decrease reached 438 million kilowatt hours,” report said.

“Last month, 30 million cubic meters of fossil fuels were saved, and in total, this figure reached 1.32 billion cubic meters,” the organization noted.

About 23 million liters of water were saved in the first month, while 1.02 billion cubic meters of water was saved since the plant's commissioning, the report said.

“The emission of 67,000 tons of greenhouse gases was prevented last month, and in total, this figure amounted to 3.17 million tons,” the organization added.

There are 131 alternative and renewable energy power plants operating in Iran and producing 823 megawatts of electricity a day. About 44 percent of these power plants are solar panel (63 stations), 24 percent are wind turbines (20 stations), and 12 percent are small-scale hydropower plants. The rest falls on other renewable energy power plants.

So far, the private sector in Iran has invested 135 trillion rials (about $3.21 billion) in this sector.

Currently, 51 renewable energy power plants are under construction in Iran, and with their commissioning, additional 513 megawatts of electricity will be produced a day.
