Turkmenistan may revise estimated reserves at Galkynysh gas field

BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 11

By Jeila Aliyeva - Trend:

Turkmenistan may re-evaluate reserves at the country's Galkynysh gas field, the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Azerbaijan told Trend.

This re-evaluation of the reserves may be possible in case the field extends beyond the existing boundaries of the area in the North-West and South-East directions.

Currently, the area of the field is 4,000 square kilometers, where 40 wells are located, and the flow rate of each of wells, on average, is equal to 2 million cubic meters of gas per day, the embassy added.

In December, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov signed a decree according to which Turkmengas State Concern shall sign a contract with Sumitomo Corporation Europe Ltd. (Great Britain) for the purchase of pipes of various diameters and purposes, as well as metal products and equipment that are necessary for drilling and construction of new 11 production wells at Galkynysh gas field.

In addition, the country has signed an agreement with the Japanese Mitsubishi Corporation company to perform preliminary technical design of a plant for the production of 10 billion cubic meters of commercial gas per year, which is planned to be built as part of the next stage of the development of the Galkynysh gas field.

"Three gas refinery complexes with a total capacity of processing 30 billion cubic meters were commissioned at Galkynysh gas field earlier," the embassy noted.
