TANAP reaches maximum level of daily gas flow

BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 28

By Leman Zeynalova - Trend:

The Trans Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP), the longest part of the Southern Gas Corridor envisaging transportation of Azerbaijani gas to Europe, reached the maximum level of daily gas flow July, said Turkey’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Fatih Donmez.

He noted that since the start of gas deliveries to Turkey via TANAP on June 30, 2018, the country has received about 6.2 billion cubic meters of gas, Trend reports via Turkish media.

"We started with a daily gas flow of 4.7 million cubic meters on 30 June 2018. This volume started to increase gradually. On 1 July 2019, it reached 11.3 million cubic meters and on July 1, 2020, we reached the maximum level with 17 million cubic meters," noted the minister.

Donmez stated that TANAP plays an important role in diversifying Europe's energy supply sources.

TANAP project envisages transportation of gas from Stage 2 of Azerbaijan’s Shah Deniz field from Georgian-Turkish border to Turkey’s western border. The total cost of TANAP turned out to be lower than $7 billion.

The initial capacity of TANAP is expected to stand at 16 billion cubic meters of gas per year, with possibility of expanding to 31 billion cubic meters per year in the future. Around 6 billion cubic meters of gas will be delivered to Turkey, while the rest of the volume will be supplied to Europe.

The Trans Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline is almost 100 percent complete.
